Tech Notes

SHNs were decoded to wave and SF 6.0 was used to reassemble the tracks back to 1 long wave. CEP2.0 was used to align & synch both of the sources. This is a 50% SBD, 50% AUD mix.
DTS was used to encode to DTS.
– Mixed by dan@am-dig.com
– SHN conversion 08-JAN-2005

Band Info

Phil Lesh (bass)
Steve Kimock (guitar)
John Molo (drums)
Trey Anastasio (guitar)
Page McConnell (keyboards)
Donna Jean Godchaux-MacKay (vocals)

Notes

Please note that the AUD source for 4/17 is different than the previous 2 nights. Still at the front drink rail and still an excellent recording.

d2t01 The AUD source was run extremely hot during “Terrapin Station” and may suffer very mild distortion. However, this is extremely watered down when mixed with the SBD. This is most likely undetectable.

D2 and D3 can be assembled seamlessly on longer media.

d3t01 SBD missing 0:01:41.067 crowd cheer btwn last song and “Donor Rap”. The AUD was trimmed to match and both sources were crossfaded to make this transitions as smooth as possible. This is most likely undetectable.

I finally ran out of bandwidth.  Turns out the throttled speeds aren’t bad at all.  I was expecting dial-up style slowness but I’m still downloading at about .81 mbs (and about a quarter of that for uploads) which, while not awesome, is loads better than my expectations and more than enough to keep me blogging.  It will likely slow down the amount of shows I upload, but not by that much.  And posting will now be able to continue at regular speeds.  Huzzah!

Transfer 11/7/11: 44k dat>midiman delta dio 2496> cooledit2000> wav> flac; cooledit2000 used to raise levels 20% and cut tracks

Flaws: missing first few seconds of 2nd set as they surprised most by starting before the curtain was raised; pause/cut near end of d3t3 in the crowd noise awaiting the encore

Notes: The dats were treed shortly after the show on datheads. In comparison to shnid=8980, this has a fuller warmer sound and that is brighter. (You may need to have a good stereo and play it loud to notice). This has an extra 10 seconds of the beginning of China Cat than that has.

I think this is the first Phil & Friends ever. Actually it is really the Grateful Dead minus the drummers and I think the just called it Phil and Friends as a joke. It was for some benefit or another. It is also a very fun, laid back show.
